ISBN: 0062653652
Release Date: January 2nd 2018
Format: Hardcover/E-book/Audio-book

Synopsis:
In the kingdom of Sempera, time is currency—extracted from blood, bound to iron, and consumed to add time to one’s own lifespan. The rich aristocracy, like the Gerlings, tax the poor to the hilt, extending their own lives by centuries.
No one resents the Gerlings more than Jules Ember. A decade ago, she and her father were servants at Everless, the Gerlings’ palatial estate, until a fateful accident forced them to flee in the dead of night. When Jules discovers that her father is dying, she knows that she must return to Everless to earn more time for him before she loses him forever.
But going back to Everless brings more danger—and temptation—than Jules could have ever imagined. Soon she’s caught in a tangle of violent secrets and finds her heart torn between two people she thought she’d never see again. Her decisions have the power to change her fate—and the fate of time itself.
Review:
**I was sent this book from Harper Collins, for free, in return for my honest review**
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book; would I love it or hate it? I'm pleased to say I absolutely loved it!
This is Sara Holland's debut novel and she has done a fantastic job. Everless has a fantastic storyline with well written characters and a beautiful world.
I loved the main character Jules Ember! She is a fascinating and strong character who has reasons for hating the Gerling's and Everless. She is headstrong and follows her heart. But she soon comes to realise that not all is as it seems. I cared for what happened to her as well as all the other characters. All the characters were multi-layered and I loved getting to all of them.
The whole story was beautifully written and I was clinging to the edge of my seat the whole ride. The twist in the novel was totally unexpected- not once did I find myself knowing what was coming. The novel took me by surprise at every turn. There were several unique elements that Sara Holland portrayed brilliantly. I loved the blood/time magic element and it's not something that I've personally read before. The pace of the novel is pretty consistent but I did feel that some parts were a little more fast-paced than I would have personally liked. This book is definitely used to set up the rest of the series but that didn't mean I enjoyed it any less. This book did have some typical YA tropes but they were pulled of so brilliantly that I didn't care!
Some of the myths and legends I personally found a little confusing and I did go back a reread a few parts. I imagine the next book will cover even more and be even more exciting so I'm not too worried. Be warned the book does very much end on a cliffhanger.
I really adored this book and it should 100% be a book on your to-be-read pile for next year. I know I'll be picking up a finished copy on its release day!
Now I just have to wait for the sequel...
