Synopsis:

When childhood sweethearts Justine (Sagittarius and serious skeptic) and Nick (Aquarius and true believer) randomly bump into each other as adults, a life-changing love affair seems inevitable. To Justine anyway. True, she hasn't seen Nick in thirteen years, one month and three weeks, but who's counting? She's pined after him all the same, and now that Nick lives in the same town, a struggling actor to her struggling magazine reporter, he'll surely realize his own unchanged feelings, take the reins and jump at the chance to rekindle their relationship. Right? Well, no. Nick, she learns, is an astrological devotee, and his decision-making, romantic and professional, is guided solely by the infallible horoscopes in his favourite magazine. The magazine Justine happens to work at. Perhaps the stars' guiding forces could use a little journalistic reimagining?

It's only a few tweaks to the Aquarius column, just a little push to get him to realize they're meant for one another. It's nonsense in the first place, what could possibly happen? Aquarians everywhere are about to find out, when the doctored horoscopes, ostensibly published to steer Nick and Nick alone, end up reverberating in the lives of the column's devoted readers, showing the ripple effects of what can happen when one woman takes the horoscopes, and Fate itself, into her own hands.

Review:

**Thanks to Penguin Random House Canada for sending me a finished
copy in return for my honest review**

Nick and Justine grew up together and it seemed that they were destined to be together. However, Nick's family decide to move across the country and the two have to say goodbye. As adults, the two finally meet again and they begin to realise that maybe they're still meant for one another.

Justine is a journalist and has been longing to see Nick again. She's been counting the days since she last saw him and didn't expect to run into him again when they are both adults. Justine carries around a sharpie so she can correct any spelling mistakes and errors found on menus, signs, programs, etc. I really liked this quirk of hers and I enjoyed her confidence in her need to be accurate. Her struggles with family, her work and love only made her more relatable and throughout the novel I couldn't help but wish her the best and hope that she would find her happy ending. However, she risked her job and integrity to try and win Nick over, and it came across as a little crazy in many moment throughout the novel

Nick was also a very interesting character. He is a struggling actor and uses astrology to make his decisions and it was a really unique part of him that I haven't come across before. After her promotion, Justine hopes to catch Nick's attention in her horoscope writing, knowing he relies on them to help in his life. However, not everything goes to plan, and Nick doesn't always interpret his horoscope quite the way she intended.

The majority of the novel is told from Justine's point of view and horoscopes play an important role throughout the entire novel. I really enjoyed the look into how Justine's manipulation of the horoscopes affects other people's lives.

The novel as a whole puts a lot on emphasis on how manipulation can affect people in ways you might not expect and lying never gets you want you want. The plot wasn't majorly complex, but the characters and how relatable they are really help carry the novel.

Minnie Darke is a wonderful writer and her inclusion of astrology really makes this novel something unique. This is a fun, cute, rom-com that I loved and I cannot wait for Minnie Darke's next novel.
