Summary:

After escaping a harsh school where punishment was the lesson of the day, seventeen-year-old Louisa Ditton is thrilled to find employment as a maid at a boarding house. But soon after her arrival at Coldthistle House, Louisa begins to realize that the house’s mysterious owner, Mr. Morningside, is providing much more than lodging for his guests. Far from a place of rest, the house is a place of judgment, and Mr. Morningside and his unusual staff are meant to execute their own justice on those who are past being saved.
Louisa begins to fear for a young man named Lee who is not like the other guests. He is charismatic and kind, and Louisa knows that it may be up to her to save him from an untimely judgment. But in this house of distortions and lies, how can Louisa be sure whom to trust?

Featuring stunning interior illustrations from artist Iris Compiet, plus photo-collages that bring Coldthistle House to chilling life, House of Furies invites readers to a world where the line between monsters and men is ghostly thin.

Review:

**I was sent this arc by Harper Teen in return for an honest review**

This book was the first that I have read by Roux. I have some of her books from the Aslyum series and, after reading House of Furies, I'm gonna have to start them as soon as possible.

We start by meeting our main character, Louisa, a fortune teller who is later recruited to work at Coldthistle house.

The story starts of slow but I never found it boring. The mystery behind Coldthistle House, the workers, and Mr Morningside are enough to keep you hooked.

I loved the pages with drawings about all the different mythical creatures within the world that Roux has created. Quite a few I hadn't heard of before so went ahead and looked them up. This element really helped me feel more involved in the story. In fact, I'd love to have a book released just on all these creatures.

The story is dark, eerie and creepy. I also really liked that there were many dark secrets unfolding at the same time, so the book always kept me wondering whether some things might be connected or if they were completely unrelated but parallel plotlines.

I loved that there wasn't really a romance storyline within the book. Of course, we have Lee who does seem the character that Louisa may fall for later in the series. But, I'd love it if she ended up with Mr Morningside. We shall see where Roux takes the romance later in the series.

I did feel that the book dragged in some parts and I was struggling to follow along with each of the residents and characters involved. There are a lot of different characters to keep up with, but, each one is interesting and mysterious. I enjoyed learning about all the different residents within the house and how they worked with one another.

The ending was amazing. I really can't wait for the sequel- though I have a long time to wait for that.

I highly reccomend this book. I can't wait for it be released at the end of the month.I know I'll be starting her Aslyum series soon.
