Synopsis:

Emily knew there would be strings attached when she relocated to the small town of Willow Creek, Maryland, for the summer to help her sister recover from an accident, but who could anticipate getting roped into volunteering for the local Renaissance Faire alongside her teenaged niece? Or that the irritating and inscrutable schoolteacher in charge of the volunteers would be so annoying that she finds it impossible to stop thinking about him?

The faire is Simon's family legacy and from the start he makes clear he doesn't have time for Emily's lighthearted approach to life, her oddball Shakespeare conspiracy theories, or her endless suggestions for new acts to shake things up. Yet on the faire grounds he becomes a different person, flirting freely with Emily when she's in her revealing wench's costume. But is this attraction real, or just part of the characters they're portraying?

This summer was only ever supposed to be a pit stop on the way to somewhere else for Emily, but soon she can't seem to shake the fantasy of establishing something more with Simon, or a permanent home of her own in Willow Creek.

Review:

**Thanks to Penguin Random House Canada
for sending me a copy in return for my honest review**

I don't often read romance books, but this one has easily become one of my favourites of the year.

The book follows Emily who has recently moved to the small town of Willow Creek to look after her sister after she was in a car accident. Emily is soon roped into helping at the Renaissance Fair with her niece and quickly comes to learn more about the people living in the town and how the Fair came to be.

I loved all the characters in this book. Emily easily accepted the offer to help her sister after she broke up with her long term boyfriend. She had given up college so she could work while her boyfriend studied; thinking that he was the one she would someday marry. I really loved how Emily took up the offer to help her sister despite the fact they hadn't had the greatest relationship while growing up. She ends up loving Willow Creek and loves the people living there. Emily has to learn to cope with her insecurities and I really enjoyed reading about her overcoming them.

Then we have Simon. Simon was a fantastic character. From the beginning I fell in love with him and loved the interactions between him and Emily. What started as a relationship filled with hate slowly blooms into love. Simon is trying to cope with the loss of his brother and organising the Renaissance Fair that he loved so much. He wants everything to run perfectly and struggles to rely on others to help him. I really enjoyed his progression as a character through the book and how his relationship with Emily helps him find who he truly is.

I really loved the themes of family and community. All the different characters living in Willow Creek rely on one another and want to get to know you. The friends Emily makes are all wonderful characters and do whatever they can to make her feel welcome in a town where she doesn't know anyone.

The hate-to-love relationship in this book was wonderfully done. I loved reading Emily and Simon's relationship between one another from enemies, to friends and eventually to love. The witty conversations they had between one another had me laughing and smiling. It was an emotional book from start to finish and I didn't want it to end.

This was a fantastic romance book and one that I am still thinking about days after finishing it. It's cute, swoon-worthy and sweet and I loved every second of this book. I definitely recommend picking this one up!
