June 1812. Just weeks after her catastrophic coming-out ball, Lady Helen Wrexhall—now disowned by her uncle—is a full member of the demon-hunting Dark Days Club. Her mentor, Lord Carlston, has arranged for Helen and her maid, Darby, to spend the summer season in Bristol, where Helen can sharpen her Reclaimer powers. Then the long-term effects of Carlston’s Reclaimer work take hold, and his sanity begins to slip. At the same time, Carlston’s Dark Days Club colleague and nemesis will stop at nothing to bring Helen over to his side—and the Duke of Selburn is determined to marry her. The stakes are ever higher for Helen, and her decision will truly change the world…

Review:

The Dark Days Pact is book two in the Lady Helen Series and I enjoyed this book even more than the first. Lady Helen has been disowned by her Uncle and is now a full member of the demon-hunting Dark Days Club.

The pacing in book two was much more suspenseful and exciting. I felt more connected to the characters and committed to the storyline that I had in the previous book. Alison Goodman has done a wonderful job at continuing the storyline and creating wonderful characters.

I really loved the darker and supernatural themes in the book while still keeping the regal theme. Alison Goodman is an incredible writer and her attention to detail is fantastic. You can tell that a lot of research went into the setting and it really shows.

The first part of the book focuses on the training of Helen and Darby. She struggles with her training while also trying to find a secret journal that people around her are trying to find.

Helen is a fantastic main character and she has really come into herself since the first book. She is sensible, caring and level-headed. She has given up a lot to life her life that way she wants. She was disowned and nothing has been easy for her. Alison Goodman did a fantastic job at creating a realistic main character that faces struggles just as any human does.

The other characters are just as strong. Carlston is one of my other favourite characters. He's brooding with a temper but he really cares about Helen and will do what he can to protect her.

The ending of the book left me yearning for more. This story had more action, adventure and exciting scenes that kept me hooked. The Dark Days Pact was a strong follow up to the first book and I cannot wait to read the third and final book.
