Synopsis:

Best friends are forged by fire. For Winona Olsen and Lucille Pryce, that fire happened the night they met outside the police station—both deciding whether to turn their families in.

Winona has been starving for life in the seemingly perfect home that she shares with her seemingly perfect father, celebrity weatherman Stormy Olsen. No one knows that he locks the pantry door to control her eating and leaves bruises where no one can see them.

Lucille has been suffocating beneath the needs of her mother and her drug-dealing brother, wondering if there’s more out there for her than disappearing waitress tips and generations of barely getting by.

One harrowing night, Winona and Lucille realize they can’t wait until graduation to start their new lives. They need out. Now. All they need is three grand, fast. And really, a stolen convertible to take them from Michigan to Las Vegas can’t hurt.

Review:

** ARC provided by Harper Collins Frenzy, in return for my
honest review **

This book quickly became one on my most anticipated books for the summer after the amazing talks about the book during the Spring Frenzy Presents. So, I was really happy to receive an arc for this book in my swag bag!

This book follows two girls, Winona and Lucille, who are desperate for their graduation so that they can begin their new lives. But, they end up stealing a convertible and three grand before starting their journey from Michigan to Las Vegas.

This book was a lot of fun. Both girls made some bad decisions along the way, their plans never went the way that they were expecting and they found themselves in various difficult situations. They have flawed personalities but that only makes them more human and relatable.

Winona
is a timid and sweet girl. Her father is a beloved weatherman but he abuses her and she feels as though no-one will believe her. I really felt sadness from her character and I really loved how well she was written and the depths of her emotions.

Lucille is another fantastic character. She is much wittier than Winona and is learning to cope with her drug-dealing brother. She hates how everyone belittles her and just wants to be respected. I loved her relationship with Winona. The two come together and rely on one another during their difficult times. There were some moments were I felt slightly frustrated at the silly decisions the two were making, they'd often have a good plan but then change it to one that left them in a more difficult situation.

This book was a fun, witty and brilliantly written book. I really enjoyed this book and I would love to read even more about Lucille and Winona.
